LIBERIA COUNTRY PROGRAM
SITUATIONAL ANALYSIS AND BACKGROUND
Since 2003, the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL); as part of the comprehensive peace accord (CPA) that was crafted in Ghana for the development and governance agenda for post war Liberia had supported security sector reforms programs across the country with the aim of restoring lasting peace and security in Liberia. Furthermore, for the past 12 to 15 years now, Liberia has experienced consecutive peace and lasting security coupled with two constitutional/democratic successive general and presidential elections. Against this background, numerous international organizations such as but not limited to USAID, SAVE the Children, OXFAM, IRC, United Nations, etc. have been very active with their programs implementation in order to supplement government national agenda.
However, upon the drawdown of the United Nations Mission in Liberia even up to date, there has been a monumental demand for more livelihood programs beyond humanitarian services that should require the presence of more international livelihood programs and projects partners; to encourage even more hands to be placed on deck and devise strategic innovative approach towards enabling particularly rural communities to be resilient in the effort to mitigate if not completely eliminate the economic hardship and decadent of devastating communities left behind by the civil upheaval. This will give them the sense of national responsibility to utilizing localized opportunities for their benefits as a means of restoring their self-reliance.
